Mission and Purpose
Programs
TKV's signature program is a weekly one on one tutoring program between UNC Charlotte students and Charlotte area foster children. In foster care, education is often one of the hardest things for the children and the parents to maintain. As such, TKV means to help make education a continuing priority in these children’s lives as well as give them the support they need to succeed. Our tutors are there to support and create connections with the foster children that will allow them to thrive in school.
Foster Parent Workshop Program
TKV partners with UNC Charlotte faculty and Charlotte community professionals to create foster parent training workshops that connect the foster parents with outside resources and knowledge. The workshops are designed to provide supplemental knowledge to the foster parents, and make them aware of resources they have available to them within the community. All are centered around giving parents the best resources available with which they can care for their foster children.
Parent’s Night Out is a signature TKV event during which parents of the foster children we work with are able to drop off their kids with TKV for a few hours. This gives parents a few hours to themselves to take a much deserved break. The children spend time with TKV members playing games, doing crafts, and watching movies.
